1. First, describe a biological engineering application or tool you want to develop and why.

I would like to understand and make a surveillance of the microbiological pathogens in animals in Cotopaxi-Ecuador. I would like to use the synthetic biologic to know the diversity of microorganism that affect animals in Cotopaxi. Also I would like to detect the pathogens by molecular biology, but first I need to know the complete genomes of the more representative pathogens and design the primers and the positive controls, then I have to evaluate the molecular test.

• Use the biological databases to develop molecular test to identify pathogens in animals.

Governance/policy goals

The Agricultural, Cattle raising and fishing Ministry of Ecuador always is regulated the biodiversity of our country. By this goal, I want to cooperate in the information gathering in the pathogens and productive animals in Ecuador

In Ecuador is important to guaranty the food sovereignty, so that identify the best productive animals is important to make a genetic improvement. Identify the sick animals and the animals that carry genes of interest as a-casein, is important to increase the production of milk and meat.

For the Health Ministry is important to know which are the main pathogens that affect animals in Ecuador. It is important because some of them are zoonotic, and can get sick the population. Have tools to a quick identification can prevent the propagation and mantein the One Health Goal.

The government need to protect the biodiversity of Ecuador, the microorganism, and the animals. That is why, just hierarchical levels and ministry will can use the data getting by this project.

Specific sub-goals

• Describe the biodiversity of productive animals and their pathogens in Cotopaxi-Ecuador during the first semester of 2025.
• Determine through phylogenetic analysis how are the pathogens and productive animal genetic in Ecuador vs the global world.
